Supporting renewable energy projects

By utilizing its international brands, Norplan, Multiconsult plans to implement the innovative subsidy programme GET FiT which will trigger the development of up to 20 renewable energy projects in Uganda.

The programme has been initiated by the Ugandan authorities and will lead to the development of up to 20 renewable energy projects in Uganda over the next five years. GET FiT (Global Energy Feed in Tariff) is a new, untested mechanism for mobilising private investments in developing countries.

Trigger a steep increase of private investments

The programme aims to trigger a steep increase of private investments within small-scale renewable electricity production in Uganda, with the development of up to 20 projects over the next five years. The projects that receive funding from GET FiT will be hydro-power and bio-energy projects with an installed energy capacity of less than 20 MW.

– GET FiT is a very promising mechanism addressing several of the largest barriers faced by private energy investors in immature markets such as Uganda. We can see that there is great international interest in what the programme could achieve, explains Joakim Arntsen, Multiconsult’s Project Manager.

Multiconsult delivers multi-disciplinary services

Multiconsult’s task is to manage the implementation of the programme. This includes running the programme office in Kampala, analysis of projects applying to join the programme and regular monitoring of the projects during the construction period. Multiconsult will supply services within management, technical subjects, environmental consultancy and financial and legal consultancy.

-The implementation of the programme is well under way and we are already on the cusp of finalising agreements for funding for the first hydro-power projects. Being awarded this project is a great recognition of Multiconsult’s broad international experience and specialist expertise within energy development, says Joakim Arntsen.
