African development and networking event

On the 18-19th May the Multiconsult Energy unit held an African Business Development and Networking Event in Oslo, Norway. Representatives from Africa, UK and Norway were gathered for two days looking into Multiconsult’s strategy going forward in Sub Saharan Africa and workshops focusing on future opportunities and how to increase cooperation.

The main purpose of the event was to operationalise the strategy for the unit’s operations in Africa, and to facilitate networking between colleagues and partners across countries. Multiconsult is currently present in several countries on the African continent, such as Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia, and has recently established an office in Mozambique.

Great potential in the African market

With increasing presence and assignments on the African continent, it was important to gather colleagues and partners for networking and to build “The Multiconsult Family”. Onboarding of new partners and employees, as well as introduction to strategic priorities, opportunities and related resources and competence requirements were key topics on the agenda. The Multiconsult brand, with a focus on quality, as well as how to conduct business in international markets in accordance with ethical guidelines and regulations, was discussed.

“Africa is a market with great potential and many exciting opportunities for Multiconsult within the renewable energy sector, especially hydro and solar power. Therefore, the event was important for us to ensure a common understanding of our goals and to carry out strategic planning with a focus on countries, customers and projects,” said the Marketing Manager for the Energy unit, Tom Edin Ødegaard.

In addition to Multiconsult’s own employees and important partners from Africa, Norwegian partners, such as the Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster, Norad, Norwep and the Norwegian African Business Association, were also present at parts of the event.

Important networking

Mari Sofie Furu was the initiator for this event and she emphasized the importance of networking and physical meetings. Especially after two years of pandemic and limited contact.

“We wanted to give our colleagues and partners a better understanding of what we can offer in terms of support and how they can gain access to the apparatus we possess. At the same time, it was important to meet to get to know each other better,” she said.

For the newly appointed leader of GET FiT Mozambique, Nicoline Bedenkamp-Boshoff, her key take-away from the event was the networking and the opportunity to become better acquainted with Multiconsult and partners.

“The event has been a great introduction to Multiconsult, the Group’s values and “The Multiconsult Way”. I have also been ensured that I will receive the necessary support from the head office in Oslo in my everyday work, which is reassuring”, she said.

Anicet Vincent, Head of Energy at Norplan in Tanzania, also emphasized the importance of networking.

“It is much easier to reach out to a partner once we have met and gotten to know each other”.
