As part of their ambition of universal access to modern energy services by 2030, ZECO are considering options for electrification of Kokota and Njau Islands off the Pemba coast.
As part of this process, ZECO has requested support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam for a study on the possible establishment of a solar PV system with battery storage to power the villages on the two islets.
Scope of work
Multiconsult was contracted to perform the following scope of work
- A baseline study
– Collection of key environmental and socioeconomic data
– Establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework - Feasibility study
– A load forecast for each of the two islets
– Technical assessment and recommendation, including design specification and estimated costs
– An economic and financial assessment of the projects
– An institutional and managerial assessment, with particular focus on sustainability issues
– A simplified environmental and socio-economic impact assessments - Environmental Impact Statement
- An implementation plan
– Detailed plan of project activities, including indicators for project objectives and results, design specifications, required resources, project timing and estimated costs
– Recommendations for safeguarding the long term sustainability of the project benefits
