Sakhalin 2 – PA-B and LUN-A (GBS)

The Phase II of the Sakhalin 2 gas and oil project is until now the largest single foreign investment project in Russia. Phase II involves installation of one concrete platform at the Piltun Astoskhskoye offshore field (primarily oil) and another concrete platform at the Lunskoye field (primarily gas), both in the sea of Okhotsk.

The platforms are resting on the seabed and constitute a support for the topside. The platforms will be linked to the shore by pipelines. The oil and gas will be transported via an 800 km onshore pipeline to Prigorodnoye, in the south of Sakhalin Island, the site of a planned LNG plant.

Scope of work

Multiconsult in joint venture MAOS has performed the enormous technical challenge of detail engineering of the concrete gravity base substructure. The engineering of the concrete structures was subcontracted to Multiconsult and two Norwegian partners, working as an integrated discipline in the Aker Kvaerner engineering organisation through the front end and detail engineering phases of the project. The services also include follow on engineering and site supervision from the engineering team.

The Joint Venture group specialist skills in marine geotechnical engineering led to the foundation design during front end and detail engineering phases being awarded to Multiconsult as a separate subcontract.
