For many years Multiconsult has had an excellent working relationship with Aker Solutions. On 15 January this year, Aker Solutions announced that it was going to reorganise its modifications, maintenance and operations (MMO) business in Norway, with one of the consequences being staff cutbacks in Sandnessjøen.
Multiconsult has had constructive talks with Aker Solutions about employing some of the staff who will become available. It has now been decided that four people will join Multiconsult, allowing the company to open a new office in Sandnessjøen.
Multiconsult already has offices in all of the three northernmost counties in Norway, including Svalbard. In total, the company employs 160 people in Northern Norway. Multiconsult is now working to reinforce its presence in Bodø, the Salten region and Helgeland. The company currently has employees both in Bodø and Mo i Rana. Opening an office in Sandnessjøen will complete a triangle in southern Nordland, a county known for its natural resources and industry. In northern Nordland Multiconsult has offices in Narvik and Sortland.
Significant economic development
“We are delighted to have a presence in Sandnessjøen. By growing this office, and supported by Multiconsult’s strong position across Northern Norway, we hope to reinforce our position in southern Nordland,” says Arnor Jensen, Multiconsult’s Regional Director for Northern Norway.
In recent years, Sandnessjøen has seen significant economic development. The maritime and shipping industries have long histories in the town, but in recent years Sandnessjøen has developed a modern service and supply base for oil and gas fields in the Norwegian Sea. The town and the surrounding area are well placed to benefit from future growth in aquaculture, while hydroelectric power and industry also make significant contributions to the local economy. Multiconsult has a long history of providing services to these areas of the economy, as well as in the fields of buildings and properties and transportation and infrastructure.
