Contract for area zoning plan at Norway’s biggest urban development project

Eidos Eiendomsutvikling AS has awarded the contract for the area zoning plan for the new fjordside town at Lierstranda to a consortium consisting of LINK arkitektur, Multiconsult and WSP Norge. This is Norway’s biggest urban development project, with a mixture of residential and commercial use.

“We are now one step closer to seeing Norway’s biggest urban development project take shape. The area zoning plan, which represents the outline design of the fjordside town, is vital to the progress of the project. We have high ambitions for Lierstranda, and things will really get moving now”, says Gunn Cecilie Ringdal, the mayor of Lier Municipality.

Once completed, the fjordside town will be able to house 20,000 workplaces and 20,000 inhabitants. Eidos Eiendomsutvikling AS, the biggest landowner at Lierstranda, is leading the development process. Work on the zoning plans for some areas, including environmental impact assessments and detailed zoning plans, will start immediately.

Grand ambitions

“We are looking forward to the project with a great deal of enthusiasm. We share Eidos and Lier Municipality’s grand ambitions for the area, which will see contaminated land and disused industrial sites transformed into attractive, dynamic fjordside neighbourhoods. Our interdisciplinary project team can offer lots of experience from equivalent projects all over Scandinavia, and our forward-looking solutions will lay the foundations for an attractive, urban environment to live and work in”, says Sissel Engblom, Director of Urbanism at LINK arkitektur.

Both she and LINK arkitektur’s regional director Camilla Aakre stress that an ambitious vision combined with realistic plans will form the basis for a new fjordside town that will be a meeting place for people, the fjord and the future.

“We are delighted with the strong team that will help us to produce the zoning plan for the area. The partners in the consortium have a demonstrated ability to create plans that can be executed, which is vital to adding value in the field of property development”, says Torgeir Finnerud, Managing Director of Eidos.

Eidos Eiendomsutvikling AS received bids from eight strong teams offering architectural and consulting engineering services. The bidders were highly skilled, and could offer both domestic and international experience.
