Svalbard Global Seed Vault

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is located in Longyearbyen and comprises three storage rooms in permafrost rock formation, access tunnel and outside entrance.

Technical facilities include a glycol freezing installation for cold storage down to minus 18°C, power supply and central control and monitoring systems.

The facility entrance has a characteristic architectural design and artistic layout that is balanced with its location in the harsh Arctic environment at almost 80° north and at the same time enhance the facilities symbolic importance as long term storage of seeds from all over the world.
