Bulk Jetty for Coal Export

The Bulk Jetty at Kapp Amsterdam, Van Mijenfjord, Svalbard, is a vital facility for exporting coal from the mines in Svea. The fjord is covered with ice during January to June, when the ice breakers makes the first channels to the jetty. The vessels are mainly ice strengthen bulk carriers of 30 000 DWT to 60 000 DWT. Bulk loading equipment are placed on rails on the jetty deck for loading the vessels.

The jetty is founded at vertical concrete filled steel piles in sand. Caissons of steel sheet piles filled with sand takes the horizontal forces from the vessels and ice. The jetty deck consists of concrete slab and beams.
