Smolt farm for Lerøy

Bjørsvik

The facility was built on the site of a former mill, with a water supply from Lake Husdalsvatnet in Lindås Municipality. The plant produces trout used for stocking Lerøy’s fish into cages in the sea.

Multiconsult was responsible for the design and site management on this highly challenging expansion project. It was a prerequisite that production should continue uninterrupted and the site was extremely difficult, as there was very little space available.

The project consisted of two phases. The first phase involved land reclamation and building a factory on the reclaimed land, while the second phase – being constructed in 2017/18 – involved demolishing the old factory buildings and constructing a second new factory in their place. Phase 2 is being built between the newly reclaimed land and a steep mountainside.

Scope of work

Multiconsult was responsible for design and design management, including coordinating all of the disciplines, as well as site management. The project involved demolishing existing facilities, land reclamation, building a new quay, rockfall protection, all of the engineering and architecture for the steel buildings, designing the intake and outlet structures for the processing plant, energy systems, fish transport, piping design, etc.

Multiconsult did the site management, and was the responsible applicant for the project.
